Bio Illustration

Collection of specimen drawings from a biological illustration class. The course, first and foremost, seeks to emphasize observational skills. Through proper observation, one can learn both about how to draw a subject, and how it functions on a biological level.

Stippling is the primary choice for biological illustrations. Not only does it allow one to achieve extraordinary detail, it also forces you to go slow. Painfully slow. This facilitates accuracy, and accuracy to one's drawing means fuller understanding.

“I don’t really teach students to draw, I teach them to see.”

-Jennifer Landin; NCSU Professor of Biological Illustration
